Not a whole lot has happened since my last entry. My con crud has been in full swing and it's been good to have a few quiet days anyway.

Spent my first and only full day in Kansas City being a couch zombie for the most part. A few of us went out to lunch at a Japanese/Chinese/Vietnamese place. The sushi I had was omnomilicious, but I didn't like the pho. Stopped by a gamer household where they were in the middle of playing something. Went to a MicroCenter where this conversation occurred and I picked up a Wacom tablet for $70 (can't get it working under Ubuntu).

WolfWings' housemate drove me around downtown KC before we grabbed burritos for dinner. I have to admit, some parts of it looked quite nice, and if I dug around a bit I probably could have found things to do to keep me entertained for a few days, but it didn't appear to have much for tourists to do and it reminded me way too much of Brisbane. So I decided to GFTO the following day and caught the train to St Louis.

I'm glad I caught the train because the scenery was rather dull, plus when it hit dusk I couldn't see anything anyway. Unfortunately, I spent a lot of the trip playing "catch the cell signal", so I was without internet access for most of the trip. D= It did give me ample time to write up my roadtrip post.

[livejournal.com profile] buran met me at the train station and we had dinner at a pizza place. First pizza of the trip! Whoa. Not counting that slice I had at FC. The pizza was reasonable. I wouldn't say amazing.

First day in St Louis: slept in, watched Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (which exceeded my expectations, but then I thought the book was by far the worst in the series), and had dinner with Buran, Snowdog, and Buran's parents at Lonestar, because I wanted to have steak at least once whilst in the midwest.

Second day in St Louis: slept in, then went shopping. I discovered that there's a Dance Dance Revolution for the PS3. According to Wikipedia, it was released last October. Went to the local GameStop and they didn't have it. The first sales assistant said I could place it on order. I decided not to, and we wandered around the mall for a bit (wayyy too many fashion outlets, little else of interest). Came back to GameStop and talked to a different sales assistant who informed me that DDR won't come out until May. D'oh! I picked up some DDR games for the PS2 anyway (Max, Max 2 and Extreme 2). I HOPE I can get it all working when I get back home. I'm probably going to preorder DDR for PS3. I need to find out if it's being released in Australia, although it shouldn't be a problem if I bought it from the US anyway.

Last night, Snowdog, Buran and I had dinner at Olive Garden. It's my second time at that restaurant. They serve you way too much food, but it's reasonably tasty at a reasonable price. And I fell asleep watching Wrath of Khan.

I've certainly been getting plenty of sleep here! Tomorrow I fly back to LA then I'll catch the ferry across to Catalina to spend the rest of my vacation there. Looking forward to that!

Ugh, con crud. I was lucky this year with crud, but then I got food poisoning instead. :p Somewhere in the universe someone is laughing..

Hope you get some good photos at Catalina! I hear it is beautiful there. :}

Last year at FC, Rose and I were the only ones to dodge the crud. Everyone else got it. Not so lucky this year!

Ugh, food poisoning.

I plan on taking lots of photos at Catalina! I haven't used my camera a whole lot this trip. I haven't even bothered recharging the batteries since I left home!

Ah, you got to see a MicroCenter! They're pretty good, eh? Even put Fry's to shame, if you ask me. They're one of the good things about the Midwest.

I'mve happy to see you got your DDR games. Max2 has always been my favorite. Avoid DDRX if you come across it. It has a faux-Mexican street kid announcer that can't be turned off, and it's the most annoying thing to ever make it into a video game.

Sorry about the mall. They're all like that, I'm afraid. Like the food here, they tend to be way too much of some things and not nearly enough of others. :P

Microcenter's okay. "put Fry's to shame"? Blasphemy.

A pox on LJ, it didn't email me your reply.

In Fry's defense, I only got to visit one once, and it was brief, and they didn't have some simple thing I was looking for at the time (don't recall what), and it was something you'd think any computer store would have. Ended up getting it at some other local, small, computer-centric outfit.
